This notice explains how I collect and use personal information when you visit this website, send me an enquiry, or contact me about selling a business. I take confidentiality seriously and only use your information for the purposes described below.

Information you give me. When you complete the enquiry form, I collect:

  • your name, role or title, telephone number and email address;
  • your business name, sector and location;
  • approximate turnover, EBITDA or operating profit, and reason for sale, if you choose to provide them;
  • anything you tell me in your message.

I also keep a record of any further calls, texts, emails and meetings we have. Please do not send me detailed information about other people (such as staff, residents, children or clients) at this early stage.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the company that hosts this site (Netlify) records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running. The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser sends your IP address to Google. This site does not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.

3. How I use your information and my lawful basis

  • To respond to your enquiry and discuss a possible sale or acquisition. I rely on my legitimate interests in identifying and assessing businesses to acquire, and, where you ask me to take steps towards an agreement, on taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • To keep records of our discussions. I rely on my legitimate interests in managing potential transactions properly.
  • To keep the website secure and working. I rely on my legitimate interests in operating a secure website.
  • To meet legal obligations, for example if I am required to disclose information by law.

I will not use your details for unrelated marketing, and I will never sell your information.

  • Netlify, which hosts this website and securely stores form submissions.
  • Google, which provides my email service and the website's fonts.
  • My professional advisers and funders, such as solicitors, accountants and lenders, but only if our discussions progress, only where needed, and under a duty of confidentiality.
  • Authorities or regulators, where the law requires it.

5. International transfers

Netlify and Google may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this happens, I rely on the safeguards those providers put in place as required by UK data protection law.

6. How long I keep your information

If our discussions do not lead to a transaction, I will delete your enquiry and related correspondence within 24 months of our last contact, unless you ask me to delete it sooner. If a transaction goes ahead, I will keep the relevant records for as long as the law requires.

7. Keeping your information secure

The website is served over an encrypted connection, and access to enquiries is restricted to me. I treat everything you share about your business as confidential.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you;
  • ask me to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask me to delete your information;
  • ask me to restrict how I use your information;
  • object to my use of your information where I rely on legitimate interests;
  • ask me to transfer information you gave me to another organisation, in certain circumstances.

To exercise any of these rights, contact me using the details above. I will respond within one month.

9. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please contact me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
